Mom speaks out as gang violence escalates in Wentworth

A Wentworth mother whose two sons were shot and killed recently says violent crimes in the Durban south community is getting out of hand.

Three people were wounded during a drive-by shooting on Landsdowne Road on Tuesday. 


Arlene Glover's 26-year-old Evin lost his life last month. A few weeks ago, her 32-year-old son Yule was shot and killed.

"Every day in my area, they are running around with guns, small children, young children running around with guns. Every second person in this place got a gun. Up to small children they using them to carry their guns," she said. 


She says this scourge of violence needs to end. 


"I stay there. I see it every day. The reason why I never spoke is because I was frightened of children getting killed now they dead, now I can talk," she said.


KZN Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General, Khombinkosi Jula visited the Wentworth police station on Wednesday after a spate of drug and gang-related shootings.


"We realise this is something we can't fight on our own. It's a scourge that has been going on for some time. So, we need all hands on deck, so we can actually push back this phenomenon that is ravaging the society of Wentworth," he said.
