It’s understood workers at a car dealership in Umhlanga were about to clean the oil and diesel slump when they were overcome by what’s believed to be Carbon Monoxide which made them pass out.

Paramedics and rescuers from several emergency services were called to the scene and worked together to bring the men back up.

The men are now recovering in hospital.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst confirms the men are in a critical state.

"All three patients had difficulty breathing and required Advanced Life Support interventions to stabilise them. It was figured out on scene by the SAPS that the gas was Carbon Monoxide."

"Once treated the patients were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment," he said.
