Mncwango denies plotting ActionSA move

The former leader of the DA in KZN Zwakele Mncwango says he left the party because of issues he could not resolve with the party’s leadership.

Mncwango has confirmed he quit the party, just three days after he resigned from the provincial legislature where he served as chief whip.

He says the party's leadership was not addressing issues on the rule of law and fairness.

“DA has moved away from a cult of open discussion and freedom of speech, a fundamental principle in our constitution.

“Now, the DA continue to suppress people who have a different view and after I received a letter from Helen saying to me I must still engage with the public about this concern, I realised that there is no hope in the DA, the party is becoming a mess, there is no way it can be reformed, so I decided to resign."

Mncwango has rubbished claims by the DA that he had been planning his move for a while to join ActionSA.

But he won't confirm nor deny if the new kid on the block will be his new political home.

"I've been in engagement with the private sector, from NGOs who want to work with me, I'm also getting engagement from other parties who still value any believe that I can contribute to this country.

“But for me to join a political party, I need to align myself with its values so the decision I'll be making whether I join a political party or not, it will be on the basis of values of that organisation if I'm aligned to those values."
