DA believes Mncwango ‘planned’ defection to ActionSA

The DA in KZN says the resignation of Zwakele Mncwango caught the party off guard.

Provincial leader Francois Rodgers confirmed he received Mncwango's formal resignation letter on Saturday.

"It's now come to light in all of this that in fact Mncwango apparently knew that he was going to leave and he'd be soon be taking up the chairman position of ActionSA in the province of KwaZulu-Natal," said Rodgers.

It comes a few days after the former DA KZN leader quit as a member of the provincial legislature where he was the party whip.

"So it's unfortunate that he's played this game and used this space to play his political game and slamming the party. Many of the accusations that he's now suddenly raised, he certainly hasn't raised them."

Rodgers says they believe Mncwango is swapping his blue shirt for a green one to take up the position.

"We've got various platforms which one can raise internal issues on. We have provincial structures, we have the legislature structures and federal structures. At neither of those levels has there been any engagement or any comment. So we find this rather opportunistic that because of this move now to ActionSA, that he would use this opportunity to make disparaging remarks which are unsubstantiated."
