The duo and former police officers Navin Madhoe and Ashwin Narain-Pershad are accused of fraud and corruption relating to a 2010 World Cup police accommodation tender.

The indictment in the case was set to be served on all four accused today but the Investigating Directorate’s Advocate, Talita Louw requested a month-long postponement in the matter.

Louw told the court the directorate had applied for a racketeering authorisation from the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi.

The court heard Batohi received an internal memo on the matter from KZN’s former Director of Public Prosecutions, Moipone Noko about two weeks ago.

Louw said they were made aware of it a week later. The court heard Batohi needed time to consider the letter before issuing the authorisation.

The advocates representing all four accused objected to the request, saying the case was put on the roll prematurely and that the application for authorization should have been done before any arrests were made.

Magistrate Vanitha Armu ruled in favour of the State and postponed the matter to the 17th of December.
