Mkhwebane finds misuse of public funds in Mandela funeral
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found irregularities in the use of public funds spent on late former president, Nelson Mandela's funeral.

Mkhwebane has this afternoon released the report into the late stateman's funeral following allegations brought by the Eastern Cape government.
The report says based on the investigation the reported expenditure for the funeral amounted to around R48 million.
Mkhwebane says R22 million was used for 'the procurement of goods and services' from a R330 million grant allocated to basic services, and revamping hospitals and schools in the province.
She says there was no proper planning by municipalities and public entities involved in Mandela's memorial and funeral despite a publicised national plan.
The province's King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation and Nelson Mandela Municipality were some of the entities implicated in the report.
She has recommended that the special investigations unit launch an independent probe into the matter.
