Mkhize: Safety measures beefed up at SA's ports of entry
As the country prepares to reopen borders for international travel - our health minister has issued a warning.
"COVID-19 has once again reaffirmed the reality that diseases knows no borders and no country is immune to socio-economic devastation that follows the arrival and spread of a new and unfamiliar pathogen," says Zweli Mkhize.
Mkhize says the burden of COVID-19 in the country is decreasing and people are recovering.
But, he's stressed the risk of complacency under Alert Level 1 can become the biggest drawback - which can result in a second wave of infection.

International borders will reopen on 1 October under Alert Level 1 of lockdown - travelling into and out of South Africa for business, leisure and other travel will be allowed.
Mkhize says the role of officials at the ports of entry is critical.
"The measures implemented by health officials in the points of entry provides the county with an opportunity not only to delay the introduction of the disease, but also an opportunity to strengthen it's preparedness in anticipation of the inevitable entry of the disease into our country."
