Mkhize: KZN's COVID-19 cases will overtake WC within weeks

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says KwaZulu-Natal is on track to surpass the Western Cape in coronavirus cases in the next few weeks.

KZN has now confirmed over 90 000 infections and 1 100 deaths.

"The Western Cape is in a downward trend. KwaZulu-Natal is on an upward trend and the numbers in KwaZulu-Natal right now have been raging around the 3 000 and in some days, in fact, KwaZulu-Natal had more positive cases per day than Gauteng."
Zweli Mkhize says the province needs to prepare for the surge in infections.

The Minister’s begun a two-day oversight visit in KwaZulu Natal to assess the province’s readiness for the jump in cases.
He’s visited Durban’s Clairwood Hospital to inspect its new field facility which houses over 200 beds.
It’s in the process of building another hospital - for another 200 patients.
