A motorcade took off from Umhlanga on Friday.

It headed to Durban North, before returning to Umhlanga.

The new party was launched last year, with the help of former ANC president Jacob Zuma.

Zuma declared during the event in December that he would campaign for MK, adding he would not be voting for the ANC in the upcoming general elections.

On Friday, a small crowd gathered outside Umhlanga's Park Square where the MK party was encouraging them to sign up and join their party.

Their green and gold regalia was also being sold.

The party's Naameh Mogale says they are aiming for a big win.

"Forget about the rhetoric, let us go to the practicality, let us implement, let us change the lives of our people. What the MK party is insisting is that we go in our majority and have a two-thirds sounding victory. The two-thirds victory will then give us the ability to be in the state, to be able to take decisions that will enable us to change the current situation, the current challenges faced by our people."

Umhlanga resident Vernon Timothy grabbed a registration form and told Newswatch he is looking for change.

"I want change for the better of South Africa, not only for me but for everyone. You know when it comes to corruption, the ANC has been very corrupt and when you think of the people who have been corrupt, when they have been brought forward there is no stance taken with regards to that."

One curious onlooker said while she had no issues with new political parties being formed, she feels that nothing will change for normal people like her.

"I think they are all the same, they would make promises. The moment you get what you're hoping for you go back to your old ways. So, I think they are all the same."
