Zuma brought ANC, MK into disrepute - MK war veterans

The Umkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans (MKLWV) has distanced itself from the Umkhonto weSizwe Party announced by former President Jacob Zuma.

Zuma announced the new party in Soweto over the weekend.

The 81-year-old former statesman told the media on Saturday even though he will remain an ANC member, he has vowed not to campaign nor vote for President Ramaphosa's ANC next year.

In a statement, the MKLWV says Zuma deliberately chose to mislead and create confusion under the auspices of Umkhonto we Sizwe.

"It is disingenuous for President Zuma to have chosen the 16th of December and use the brand of Umkhonto we Sizwe to launch his diatribe and denunciation of the ANC.

"The MKLWV would like to reassure the public at large and all former combatants of MK that Umkhonto we Sizwe would like to make it very clear that the so-called MK Party is not MK of OR Tambo. It is not the MK of Chris Hani."

The veterans say the MK party is fake and does not represent the combatants of the ANC.

"The name of MK has been used to hoodwink people into believing that members of MK have deserted the ANC and have formed a party of their own. As already pointed out the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party is fake."

"What President Zuma has done is to bring the ANC and Umkhonto we Sizwe into disrepute,” reads the statement.
