Miss SA in Israel: East Coasters share their views
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
There's been mounting pressure on the Miss South Africa organisation and the current titleholder not to take part in the Miss Universe pageant in Israel.
Several groups say Miss SA Lalela Mswane should withdraw from the event in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine.
On Friday, some of them protested outside the Miss SA offices in Johannesburg, calling Israel an apartheid state.
Earlier this month, Miss SA organisers insisted Mswane, who is from Richards Bay, would be taking part in the event.
They said the organisation was not political.
Newswatch has spoken to some East Coasters who've shared their views.

"She has more than one person advising her that it's not a good idea, no matter how she feels. What happens when she gets there and things happen?”
This man says it's her choice to make and not for us to judge.
Another person says, "If she wants to go she must go and if she wants to withdraw, it's her choice.”
This woman says it’s unfair, "She should be allowed to go and shine for us.
“We should also support her, if Israel is racist to all the countries then we should also not enter the competition."
Meanwhile Miss South Africa 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida, left the country over the weekend to participate in the Miss World Competition set to take place in Puerto Rico next month.
