Minister optimistic R20 billion project will alleviate KZN's water woes

Water and Sanitation Minister, Senzo Mchunu says he is pleased with the work being done to resolve KZN's water supply issues.
Mchunu conducted an oversight visit at the uMkhomazi Bulk Water Supply Scheme in Umkomaas, on the south coast yesterday.
The plant is still under construction.
The R20-billion project aims to boost water supply to six districts in the province.

These are eThekwini, uMsunduzi, Ugu, Harry Gwala, ILembe and uMgungundlovu.
Mchunu says they are moving swiftly to complete work on the facility.
"That abstraction point which is Phase 1 is now 46% into completion. In fact they are ahead by about 6 or 7% and we are pleased that that contractor is serious. He has capacity. This one is just 12% but we want them to move fast. We discussed some of the gaps that they can fill up by accelerating work because people can't wait and wait. We need to deliver water."
