‘Milestone’ agreement set to ease Port Edward water woes
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
KZN's Ugu Municipality and the Alfred Nzo Municipality in the Eastern Cape have signed a memorandum of understanding with Eskom to begin the construction of power lines that will help pump more water to Port Edward residents.
Ugu says it's been unable increase supply volumes from the uMthamvuna Reservoir due to inter-provincial electricity issues.
It says it can only access more electricity from the neighbouring Eastern Cape.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Mayor Sikhumbuzo Mqadi has described the MOU as a milestone, saying it will improve water flow in the area.
"We have just unravelled the conundrum regarding the power line that is running from the Eastern Cape to uMthamvuna. We have just made history and we are excited and over the moon."
