Midlands residents worried trucks on poor roads ‘will end up killing someone’
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Road safety has become a major concern for residents in the Midlands.
This after a construction project near Town Hill kicked off a few weeks ago, which saw more heavy-duty vehicles being brought in via the Old Howick Road.
Concerned resident Ron van Zyl says while there are traffic signs that clearly indicate a vehicle's maximum weight limits, road conditions are poor, and the narrow route has sharp bends making it difficult for heavy trucks to negotiate corners.
On Sunday, both sides of the N3 in Town Hill were closed for hours after a truck transporting vegetable oil overturned.

Van Zyl says they know the situation is temporary, but the road can't accommodate heavy-duty vehicles.
"You can't send lorries and big heavy trucks down this road. You are going to kill somebody. It is steep and narrow, and half the time, there are big rigs that go onto the oncoming traffic lane and that is now our biggest concern and we have been talking about this for quite a long time.
"We are almost becoming desperate because there is going to a very nasty accident just now."
