Truck crash, oil spill closes N3
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The Road Traffic Inspectorate is warning motorists of delays on the N3 south bound.
This after a runaway truck transporting oil lost control and overturned on the Peter Brown bridge on Sunday.
RTI spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu says the road has been closed while cleanup operations continue.
"I believe it was tender laden with oil because we've got a part of the trailer that is spilling oil on the opposite bound which is the bound proceeding to Johannesburg and we have closed the road because it became slippery due to oil spillage. On the sound bound, we are busy doing the recovery.
"Traffic has come to a standstill and its being diverted at Hilton. The recovery is completed, we will open the road to traffic soon.”
Mngomezulu says no other vehicles were involved.
"Fortunately enough we had a very low volume of traffic and no other trucks were involved. It didn't disturb anyone. It went through the arrestor bed, and the overturned about 300 meters just below Peter Brown."
