Police promise immediate arrests during illegal KZN protests
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
KZN police say illegal protests and gatherings will not be tolerated. It follows yesterday's protests on several major routes in the province - calling for an end to the fuel price hikes.
"There will be no negotiation on the scene. When we get to a road blockade - people will be immediately arrested and detained. They will then be taken to court to follow the normal processes. Vehicles blockading the road will be immediately towed and impounded. Any person gathering illegally will be dispersed using the necessary force," police spokesperson, Jay Naicker said.
One of the Fuel Prices Must Fall protests was on the N3 at Pietermaritzburg.
Some tow truck and truck drivers took part - blocking the road with their vehicles.
Police say some of them were arrested on charges of public violence.

Naicker has however rejected allegations police acted strongly because a high-ranking official was personally affected by the blockade on the N3.
