South Africa's COVID-19 death toll surpasses 17 000 mark

The coronavirus death toll continues its grim climb in South Africa - we've now surpassed the 17 000 mark.

Forty more people died from COVID-19-related complications in the country.
The number of fatalities since the outbreak has risen to 17 016.
The number of infections recorded is also climbing. It's gone up to over 682 000 after an increase of more than 900 new cases.
The Health Ministry says labs have processed more than 4,2 million tests.
Over 615 000 people have recovered, so far - keeping the recovery rate at 90%.
The number of active cases in KZN has gone up to over 6 000 - from 5 900 the day before.
