Residents are up in arms over ongoing housing issues in the area that have led to violent protests for the past month.

They claim people from other provinces are coming into the area and occupying land illegally.

The residents are accusing government of allowing this to happen.

This resident says the issue has nothing to do with race.

"Our people have been forcibly removed and it's being portrayed as a racial issue. We are the most diverse community. All different races live here, we inter-marry. You call us 'coloureds' - that's not acceptable. We are all South Africans and we are indigenous to this country," she says.

Meanwhile, residents have formed a human chain at the entrance to the Milkyway section of the area - shutting down the area completely. Tyres, rocks and a burnt out car are also blocking the entrance to the area.

Police are stationed a few metres away monitoring the situation.
