MEC calls for probe into torching of four municipal vehicles in Ndwendwe

KZN Department of Co-operative Governance has called for an investigation into the cause of a fire that destroyed four cars belonging to the Ndwendwe Local Municipality.

On Thursday morning, security guards at the municipality saw smoke coming from the parking bays and went to investigate.
That is when they found four municipal cars burning two of the cars were destroyed while the others were partially damaged.

MEC Sipho Hlomuka says he has directed the municipality to ensure this incident is thoroughly probed.
“We are very concerned by this incident, the destruction of municipal assets which are meant to bring services to our communities is very unfortunate."
"Since the circumstances around the cause of this fire are not clear, we have directed the municipality to ensure that this incident is properly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken should it be found that it was arson,” he said.
A case of arson is being investigated.
