Manana says he 'should have known better’
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana has issued an official apology.
Manana has been accused of assaulting a woman at a popular restaurant in Fourways, Johannesburg at the weekend following an apparent debate.
It's believed Manana followed two women into the parking lot and continued assaulting them.
The Higher Education Department has issued a statement on behalf of the deputy minister, followed by tweets from its official Twitter account.
In the statement, the Manana cites 'extreme provocation'.
"As a leader, I should have known better and acted better," he says in the statement.
A recorded conversation between the brother of the woman assaulted and a man purporting to be Manana has also gone viral. Listen to it here.
This comes after six men attacked and assaulted a couple outside a fast food outlet in Pretoria. Video footage shows a scuffle and the woman's screams can be heard in the video.
I know that my actions and those of the people in my company have disappointed and hurt many people in the country. #MananaApologies
