Mchunu warns officials poor water quality ‘inexcusable’
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu says municipalities' failure to deliver clean water to residents is inexcusable.

And he says there'll be serious consequences for officials.
Mchunu's been speaking at a two-day Water Services Authority Summit in Gauteng.
He said the poor state of the country's water and sanitation sector is indefensible and has warned the situation will no longer be tolerated.

Mchunu said at least 38 of the country’s water service authorities are in a poor state.
His comments come as several areas of KZN, including Tongaat, continue to struggle with erratic water supply.
'We just have to be open and say what we're unable to do and find a remedy. We can't pretend, always complaining about capacity when people are dying on the other hand, and ultimately, we will be legally forced to address it.
“If we don't address It on our own, we are rapidly approaching a situation where municipal managers, mayors, and the directors general will personally face prison terms or fines."
