Mbalula urges decisive action against unroadworthy heavy vehicles
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says the department needs
to take decisive action against heavy vehicles and trucks that remain a
stubborn phenomenon on the roads.
He says as a large number of them are unroadworthy.
The issue is prevalent particularly on the N2 from Mpumalanga and Richards Bay as well as the N3.
Delivering the festive season road statistics during a media briefing on Tuesday, Mbalula says the department needs to take action, fast.

"We must redouble our efforts to find a long-term solution and decisive interventions, which must include deploying Mobile Vehicle Testing Centres in KwaZulu-Natal on the N2 and N3. We made this commitment following the tragedy in oPongolo.
"During that month of December 2022, over 1 200 vehicles and trucks were stopped and checked, with this number increasing to 1 204 vehicles stopped in the month of January 2023."
