Mbalula sheds more light on OR Tambo technical fault
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has given more details on the technical fault that led to refuelling issues at OR Tambo International last week.

He says a problem occurred between the fuel storage facility and the main hydrant system.
Hundreds of passengers had to wait for hours on rotational delays that affected 41 domestic and international departures.
Airports Company SA had to then use tankers to refuel aircrafts.
"The technical issue was as a result of the main supply valve not opening, resulting in rotational delays in domestic and international departures," he said.

"The swift manner in which ACSA dealt with the challenge minimised the impact and ensured that flights scheduled returned to normal within a reasonable time."
Mbalula conducted an oversight visit at the airport in Johannesburg on Monday.
He says the incident was not related to jet fuel supply challenges that OR Tambo experienced last year.
"We are happy to report that those issues are a thing of the past as we have managed to stabilise jet fuel stock levels at all our airports to ensure that we have sufficient fuel to comfortably meet demand even during the peak season."
