eThekwini Mayor confident city will meet water restoration deadline

The eThekwini mayor says he's confident they'll meet the deadline to restore water supply in the northern areas of Durban.

The city has until next Thursday.
Mxolisi Kaunda says engineers who've been checking for leaks and blockages and replacing valves on the Northern Aqueduct have made progress.
"We are happy with the intervention that the city is making. Firstly, we have interacted with communities in Phoenix, in Verulam, in Cliffdale as well as other areas in Inanda and Ntuzuma.

"So,we have mentioned the fact that all these challenges that we are faced with as a city, some are formed by the flooding that has been visiting us and damaged our infrastructure. Some are formed by the aging infrastructure which we are attending to."
On Wednesday, a borehole was installed in Verulam's Trenance Park as part of temporary relief measures.
Verulam resident Vishal Dudhibal says he's cautiously optimistic about the supply restoration.
"We will have a quick fix by the 15th. However, I don't think it’s going to be a long-lasting solution, there is too much work to be done with infrastructure before we get anywhere forward."
