Matric exams results not affected by delayed school reopening
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The two-week delay in the re-opening of schools won't disrupt the release of the 2020 matric exam results.
This is the assurance given by the Department of Basic Education.
It announced its decision earlier today to push back the start of the 2021 school year to the 15th of February.
Minister Angie Motshekga's advisor, Mzwandile Matthews, says everything is so far going according to plan.

"Remember there is a timetable for exams and that predetermined what has been announced as the date for the release of the examinations for 2020 and it will remain as such unless the minister or Umalusi make a totally different determination."
Deputy Minister, Reginah Mhaule says they want to protect the lives of teachers and learners during this second coronavirus wave."
Not to say that this is because of the new variant that we say we postponed the opening but we want to study it and see if it's not going to destabilised the programme of learning and teaching."
