Matric 2020 exam leak was not widespread, investigators claim

Despite the leak of two matric papers last year, the integrity of the 2020 senior certificate exams as a whole was not compromised.

This is the assurance given by the Department of Basic Education.
At a briefing yesterday, chairperson of the National Investigations Task Team, Hugh Amoore said based on available evidence, the leaks weren’t that widespread.
The Physical Science 2 and Mathematics 2 papers were circulated via WhatsApp beforehand. "The first chat group had 135 learners, we have established and respect other chat groups which had 101 learners.

"That then is a total of 236 for the 2020 NSC to whom the mathematic questions were sent by way of Whatsapp groups," he says.
Amoore says in respect to physical sciences the numbers are smaller and the chat groups here totalled 62 learners.
