Schools reopening: KZN researcher concerned about education standard
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Schools are reopening this coming Monday but a KZN based academic and researcher is worried pupils are being set up to fail.

Dr Makhosi Khoza says in its current form the quality of teaching and benchmark in our country does little to prepare young people to compete on the global arena.
She says at 30% our average subject pass rate is one of the lowest in the world.
Khoza says it's also worrying that due to leaked exam papers even pupils who would not progress are now benefiting. The National Education Department also announced it would top up the marks of Grades 4 to 9 by an addition 5% to help them get through the 2020 academic year.
Dr Khoza says this does more harm than good.
"The world is not looking for 30%. For example I would not hire a person coming into a company with a 30% matric pass rate over someone who has 80%", she said.
"The world is very competitive and South Africa is simply not teaching children about the real world", Dr Khoza said.
