Massive cocaine bust at Durban Harbour
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Pure cocaine, estimated to be worth R1.3 billion, has been recovered at the Durban Harbour.
The South African Revenue Service, along with the police, found 300 kilogrammes of the drug on a container ship during an early morning raid on Friday.
Officials say the inspection revealed zinc metal products and several black bags containing 378 bricks of cocaine.
Other illegal cargo, and what SARS says appears to be cellular tracking devices, have been handed over to the SAPS for investigation.
The vessel was coming from South America.
The revenue service says the bust followed a week-long intelligence operation led by its National Targeting Unit.
