Maselspoort attack: Two men released on warning, one awaits fate

Three men have been arrested following an attack on teenagers at Maselspoort Resort & Conference Centre outside Bloemfontein.
Free State police have confirmed that two of the men arrested following the assault of two teenage boys have been released on warnings.
The men, Johan Nel and Jan Stephanus van der Westhuizen, were arrested at Bothaville and Brandfort on Wednesday.
They appeared in a local court on charges of common assault and crimen injuria following the attack on Christmas Day.
"The matter has been postponed to January 25 after being released on warning," said police spokesperson Motantsi Makhele.

The third suspect, a 48-year-old man from Bloemdal, was also arrested on Wednesday.
"The third suspect will be charged with attempted murder he will remain in custody and is expected to appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Thursday, 29 December 2022."
Meanwhile, the Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) MEC Makalo Mohale welcomed the arrests of the three men.
"We call upon the court to mete out a harsh sentence to these men in order to deter potential perpetrators from committing similar offences," said Mohale.
