Mandela Day: Bluff community serves up meals to stricken households

On this International Mandela Day, the community of the Bluff south of Durban has come together to serve 1 000 hot meals to families in need.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Bluff Vulnerable Groups - which has been helping feed and assist stricken households since the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ward Committee Chairperson, Zoe Solomon says over 20 community members and organisations have volunteered to donate food and prepare the meals.

She says the generosity of the community speaks to the spirit of giving that Madiba stood for.
Their preparation began on Friday and continued on Saturday morning.
"We have a map of the roads that we will go into to people with the most food security issues. So we are going to be driving around and delivering these wonderful hot delicious chicken meals," says Solomon.
