Man nabbed in Soweto for Johann Rupert jewellery warehouse robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a jewellery warehouse in Johannesburg belonging to South African billionaire Johann Rupert.
Mduduzi Nxumalo (39) was arrested by the Hawks in Soweto on Monday.
The case relates to the theft of watches and jewellery belonging to Rupert’s Richemont Luxury Goods in August 2019.
The jewellery was estimated to be worth R300 million.

Hawks’ spokesperson Bonnie Nxumalo says the accused appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
“Detectives from the Hawks’ Germiston-based serious organised crime unit followed up on information which led them to Soweto, where they tracked and nabbed 39-year-old Mduduzi Nxumalo on Monday.
“The suspect has been positively linked to the burglary and more arrest are imminent because we are following up on the suspect.”
None of the jewellery has been recovered.
