Man nabbed for murder of ANC Umvoti councillor

A KwaZulu-Natal police task team investigating political violence and killings have arrested a man linked to the murder of an Umvoti Municipality ward councillor.
The 20-year-old was nabbed in Gauteng over the weekend for allegedly shooting ANC councillor Thembinkosi Lombo in the Greytown CBD last month.
The Midlands councillor is understood to have been working in Ward 13 at the time.

"Police traced 20-year-old Lalelani Zondi in Jeppestown, Johannesburg," says national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
"The suspect has already appeared before the Greytown Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder and will appear again on Monday, 4 April 2022.
"The task team has not ruled out the possibility of arresting more suspects in this matter."
