Man nabbed for Escourt cellphone shop robbery

A 49-year-old man has been arrested following a business robbery in the Estcourt CBD.
According to KZN SAPS he was part of a group of three who targeted a cell phone store where they held up staff at gunpoint before making off with cell phones to the value of R250 000.
Spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says officers tracked the trio to Roosboom in Ladysmith where they were staying after the matter was reported to the police.
"The suspects spotted the police approaching and two of the three suspects fled on foot whilst the third suspect was arrested on the scene.
"A 9mm pistol and a gas gun was recovered on the scene with one round of ammunition along with 64 stolen cellphones."

The suspect will be appearing in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today for charges of robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
