Man nabbed with ‘bag of explosives’ in Umhlanga

Police
descended on the M41 in Umhlanga and arrested a man on Tuesday.
Sources at the scene told Newswatch that the Hawks anti-gang unit and eThekwini trio task team received intelligence about a man who was travelling with explosives in the Umhlanga area.
It's understood the man jumped into a minibus taxi at the Phoenix Plaza.
Sixteen passengers were reportedly in the taxi at this time. Hawks members then followed the taxi from the plaza and blocked off the taxi on the M41.
At that point, it's understood that the man tried to grab the bag of explosives and run but the members caught him and arrested him immediately.

Members quickly got all passengers out of the vehicle and called the bomb squad who came in to inspect and removes the bombs.
Sources at the scene say the bag was filled with explosives, we haven't been given a figure on how many were in the bag at the time time.
The scene was cordoned by Metro and members of KZN VIP, and cars were rerouted while members of the bomb squad did their work.
Sources at the scene say the suspect is believed to be an explosives expert that allegedly works for a cash-in-transit gang and was in his way to Johannesburg.
Forensic experts who were combing the scene for fingerprints have just left as well as hawks and other officials at the scene.
