Man killed in Pinetown shootout with police linked to several crimes

One of the men who were killed in a shootout with police in Pinetown on Thursday has been linked to several serious crimes.
The KwaZulu-Natal SAPS has this afternoon released a statement about the shooting.
Police had received information about two suspects driving on Old Richmond Road.

They spotted their car and approached the vehicle.
The SAPS says the officers were met with heavy gunfire and the suspects sped off.
Police officers retaliated, killing both suspects.

Two guns and ammunition were found in the vehicle and have been sent for ballistics tests.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that one of the suspects is linked to four cases of murder and six counts attempted murder in KwaDabeka.
An inquest docket, as well as cases of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, have been opened.
