A man has been rushed to hospital, after the light aircraft he was flying crashed in the Dargle Valley in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands this morning.

The plane is believed to be a crop sprayer.

ER24's Russel Meiring says the cause of the crash is unknown at this stage.

Meiring says ER24, IPSS Medical Rescue and provincial ambulance services arrived at the scene shortly after 11.30am.

He says a man, believed to be in his 40s, was found trapped in the wreckage.

"Medics carefully extricated the man and assessed him. He was in a critical condition, having sustained numerous injuries," he said.

The man was treated by an advanced life support paramedic before he was airlifted to a Pietermaritzburg medical facility for further treatment.
