The woman, a well-known gospel singer, was shot and killed in Ashburton while on her way home on Saturday.

Police say she was at a party when an argument broke out between the two.

It's understood the woman's brother intervened and decided to drive her home.

Officers say as they were driving along Wally Hayward Drive, they were stopped by someone who'd been following them.

They say the man approached their vehicle and opened fire on the passenger side where the woman was seated.

The suspect will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
