A Durban man is under police guard in a hospital after he allegedly
killed his elderly mom a day before Mother's Day.
The incident took place on Saturday.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the 64-year-old woman was stabbed at a home in Glen Anil in Durban North
The suspect's sister was also attacked but survived.
Netshiunda says the man then allegedly stabbed himself.
Charges of murder and attempted murder have been opened.
"The police have gathered so far is that the mother and son had an argument, concerning the cleaning of the room and an altercation ensued,” says Netshiunda.
“The injured sister, together with the suspect, who's alleged to be high on drugs, arrived at the hospital for medical attention."
Netshiunda says another man will also appear in court this week after he allegedly stabbed his father to death at their Botha's Hill home on Friday.
