Man handed 25-year sentence for murdering girlfriend's boss

A Pietermaritzburg man has begun serving a 25-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend's boss.
Forty-one-year-old Martin Grieb was sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg High Court this week after pleading guilty to the murder of Vernon Viviers.
Grieb and his girlfriend, Jade Barnard, approached Viviers at his takeaway shop in Prestburg in August, demanding an advance payment on Barnard’s daily pay.
Viviers refused and an argument broke out.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says in his plea, Grieb said he and Barnard attempted to clean up the crime scene, but someone alerted a private security company who then arrived on the scene.

"In sentencing Grieb, the court found that he was remorseful for his actions and an eligible candidate for rehabilitation, thus deviating from the minimum sentence of life imprisonment and sentencing him to 25 years imprisonment," says Kara.
Kara says Barnard is still in custody.
"The NPA welcomes the swift finalisation of this matter and commends the work done by the prosecutor and the investigating team."
