Men who terrorised Glebelands hostel to be sentenced in new year
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Prosecutors say sentencing proceedings will get under way in the new year -- against eight men -- who terrorised the community of Umlazi's Glebelands hostel.

The men, who were themselves residents of the notorious complex, were found guilty of a number of charges, including murder and attempted murder in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday.
The convicted are Bhekukwazi Mdweshu, Khayelihle Mbuthuma, Vukani Mcobothi, Eugene Hlophe, Mcomekile Ntshangase, Mbuyiselwa Mkhize, Mondli Mthethwa and Bongani Mbhele.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says police linked them to crimes committed between 2014 and 2016.
"Before the incidents, the men conspired with each other to eliminate or kill residents of the hostel, who threatened their control of the hostel," says Kara.
"During the period of the offences, the following nine people were killed and seven others were injured, resulting in the attempted murder charges.”
Sentencing proceedings are set for 16 January 2023.
