Man found with stolen truck during July unrest jailed

A Durban man who was found with a truck stolen during the July unrest has been jailed.
Thirty-one-year-old Nhlanhla Mthembu pleaded guilty to theft of a vehicle belonging to a business in Mobeni.
The Durban Regional Court sentenced him to five years in prison on Wednesday.
The National Prosecution Authority says the business in the south of Durban was looted last year and several vehicles were taken.

It says Mthembu told the court in his plea statement, that he and his friend had come across people who had taken a Toyota Hino truck from the premises.
He claimed they were having trouble driving it, so they offered to help and got behind the wheel.
Mthembu was arrested because the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device. The others fled.
