Man drowns in Duzi River, five survive near-drowning incidents in KZN

A 20-year-old man has drowned while trying to swim across the Duzi River in Pietermaritzburg -while five people have survived near drowning incidents at several beaches in KZN, at the weekend.
ER24 paramedics say the search for the man - who had been fishing with friends when he jumped into the river - began upon their arrival at the scene on Saturday night.
Police search and rescue divers located the man's body along the banks of the river.
In a separate incident, a four-year-old boy was treated in hospital after being rescued by lifeguards at Dakota Beach in Isipingo.

Reports from the scene are that the child was swimming in the pool when he disappeared under the water, yesterday.
While at Amanzimtoti's main beach, a man - whose foot got stuck in his surfski - was hit by a wave.
Netcare911’s Chris Botha says he was flipped over in the wave and overturned his surfski board.
In another incident in Ballito, three people were rescued from the waters by other beachgoers - after they were caught in a strong rip current while swimming in Granny's pool.
