Rescue workers on Friday continued the search
for a man who was swept out to sea on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Southbroom Main Beach.
The 22-year-old reportedly went for a swim after doing maintenance work at a nearby tidal pool when he was caught in rip currents.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says bystanders and surfers attempted to help, but he disappeared beneath the waves before they could reach him.

"On arrival on the scene, a search commenced with rescuers deployed at elevated positions. A shoreline search, a sea search in the surf zone and beyond using the Rescue Craft and a police search and rescue drone conducting an aerial search," said Lambinon.
"Despite efforts, there remain no signs of the missing man and water policing and diving services, and police canine search and rescue are continuing in ongoing search efforts."
