Man crashes car into attempted hijackers says eye witness

A resident of Woodlands in Durban South has described the hijacking drama that unfolded outside his home on Tuesday night.

The homeowner - who prefers not be be named - says he was sitting in his lounge when he heard screeching, gun shots and a loud bang.

"I went to my window to go and see what was happening. I saw two cars standing in the middle of the road, each one of the about 20 metres apart from the other. I then went outside to go and see what happened, and I was informed by a man they had just tried to hijack him," said the homeowner. 

He says the attempted hijacking took place on Delalle Road.

The man says the victim fought off his armed attackers. 

"He decided to chase after them.It was in the process of chasing after them, they were firing at him. As he reached the bottom of the street, he rammed his car into the back of the hijackers. The hijackers then crashed their car into an island. The hijackers got out of the car and fled the scene," he said.

KZN police have confirmed that the suspects' car - which they abandoned at the scene - was recently stolen from Umlazi. 

A case of attempted hijacking is being investigated and no arrests have been made.
