Murder probe after would-be hijacker shot dead

Cases of murder and attempted carjacking are being investigated after a hijack victim allegedly shot and killed a suspect in Durban.

It's understood the 44-year-old man was accosted by three men on Wednesday on Zazi Road in Richmond Farm, north of the city.

"Reports indicate that the victim was with a companion when three men attempted to hijack his vehicle," says KZN police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo.
"Following a shootout, one suspect was fatally wounded, while his accomplice fled the scene."

Ngcobo says Ntuzuma police have also opened a charge of unlawful firearm possession and ammunition.
