Man arrested for shooting dead off-duty PMB cop

A man has been arrested on suspicion of killing an off-duty police officer in Pietermaritzburg.

The 35-year-old man was shot on Oribi Road, apparently during an altercation with the suspect. 

 

The KZN Hawks' Simphiwe Mhlongo says the officer, who was stationed at the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Policing Unit, had just got off work this morning.

"The motive of the killing is not yet known. The suspect is in custody and is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court tomorrow."

 

Meanwhile, Pinetown police are also investigating a murder case as they search for four gunmen who killed a 62-year-old motorist.

 

The elderly man was ambushed this morning while driving on the M13 towards Pinetown.
