Govender's first appearance before a magistrate was a brief one today. The court heard that he has already been granted 'after hours' bail.

Govender was arrested last Friday and released on R7,000 bail later that same day. He stands charged with one count of attempted murder.

The State alleges that on May 21st, Govender poured petrol on Mchunu's legs and set them alight. The State believes his intention was to kill her.
