Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Residents from an informal settlement staged a protest in Durban North on Friday morning after dozens of their homes were gutted in a fire on Malacca Road.
A local councillor says a number of issues are driving the demonstration.
Ward 110's Aamir Abdul says about 40 shacks caught alight a few days ago.

He says the community's demands include electricity and proper ablution facilities.
Police have been trying to disperse crowds who blocked the road with burning debris.
"A meeting with the officials from the relevant departments and some leadership from the informal settlement has been set up for later today to address the concerns of the informal settlement," says Abdul.
