Omesh Ramnarain crashed into Jarryd Dwyer and Richard Da Silva when he lost control of his car while driving on the M4 two years ago.

Ramnarain was found guilty on two counts of culpable homicide.

Today, the Durban Magistrate's  Court sentenced him to ten years in prison.

Da Silva's partner Sonja Ferreira took the stand to testify in aggravation of sentence today, telling the court that losing her partner of 26 years had shattered her.

She says she just wants Ramnarain, who had pleaded not guilty to the charges, to take responsibility for what he did.

"If we don't send the message out today and make an example of this case, it is just another two lives that have become stats. This is not a stat, this was two people's lives. They not going to come back and we suffer the consequences of that. Yes, he suffers and his mother suffers, but take responsibility," she said.

Ramnarain's legal representatives have indicated they will appeal the conviction and sentence.
