Looters hit N3 truck crash scene near Ashburton
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A truck driver has been treated for minor injuries after his vehicle crashed on the Durban side of the N3, near Ashburton.
Boxes of oranges spilt onto the route, prompting a total closure on Tuesday morning.
Garrith Jamieson, who's with ALS Paramedics, says looters also descended on the scene, causing chaos.
"People were stopped to start looting the oranges that were in the truck. The roadway will be closed for a couple of hours to allow for recovery of the truck, and we advise all motorists to avoid the N3 Durban bound."

The crash caused a significant traffic gridlock.
Zinhle Mali, who's with the Road Traffic Inspectorate, says the situation was made worse when other trucks began making U-turns.
Officials have been diverting vehicles onto the Market Road off-ramp.
"On the northbound as well, we have a bit of obstruction, and we are urging motorists to be patient and use alternative routes."
